Luft Named Volunteer of the Year for AmeriCorps Seniors-RSVP

WACO, Texas - May 15, 2022 – AmeriCorps Seniors-RSVP is announcing Gary Luft as the 2022 RSVP Volunteer of the Year Award, which he will soon be recognized at the Volunteer Recognition Event occurring June 11, 2022.

The RSVP Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes and honors one community member annually, within the Heart of Texas region, who embodies a spirit of dedication, passion, and commitment to improving the community by volunteering through AmeriCorps Seniors-RSVP.

“I am delighted to be able to volunteer and to do the things I have done,” Luft said. “What keeps me sustained is getting to impact the people I have a passion for.”

Executive Director of Economic Opportunity Advancement Corporation, Dorothy Marstaller, nominated Luft for the award as they have worked together since 2015.

“He loves being able to serve his church and helping people in need,” Marstaller said. “Anyone who has worked with Gary Luft has benefitted from his fantastic sense of humor, his strong work ethic, wisdom and great personality.”

Luft is an active board member at EOAC, treasurer for Texas Senior Advocacy Coalition and serves on the United Way Emergency Food and Shelter board.

“I am humbled and I appreciate the recognition,” Luft said. “I am absolutely convinced that those that do volunteer receive far more than what they give.”

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP is a national nonprofit organization sponsored by McLennan Community College that recruits, trains and manages volunteers 55 and older from the Heart of Texas region for other nonprofits.
